VERALL GOAL
/
MISSION
The aim of this project is to offer an inclusive school environment where children with disabilities and vulnerable
children can attend a school close to their hometown. The project contributes to the achievement of the "Education for
All" goals, by increasing the access to education for children with disabilities and other marginalized groups to 80% in
the community of Garango. A multi stakeholder approach is supported in order to involve local partners and thus
contribute to a systematic collaboration between local NGOs and national ministries.
The Garango project as a pilot project will serve as a resource for the national policy development. The experience and
knowledge gained during the development and implementation will be incorporated in the National Strategy of
Inclusive Education in Burkina Faso currently developed by the Ministry of Education, one of the project partners.
Additionally, this project is part of an international initiative of similar inclusive education programmes that are
currently implemented in five countries (Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa, India and Bolivia) across three continents.
T
HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
An inclusive education multi-partner project in two school districts of the municipality of Garango will strengthen the
rights of children with disabilities and other vulnerabilities and further promote the importance of inclusive education in
combination with a community-based rehabilitation (CBR) approach through following activities:
As a first step, awareness raising on local level, the identification of children with disabilities, consultation, physical
rehabilitation are undertaken in order to let the children with disabilities join the inclusive schools of Garango.
Through the involvement of all related stakeholders on the local level the Catholic Organization OCADES, local education
authorities, social affairs and the municipality, Disabled People's Organizations (DPO) and on the national level the
Ministry of Education, inclusive education for all children is implemented by specific teacher training modules within the
community of Garango. Inclusive sport activities fostering the social inclusion of people with disabilities within the two
school districts are also conducted.
