VERALL GOAL
/
MISSION
The goal of the project is to become a pioneer and a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of attention difficulties and
learning deficits of children with developmental delays.
T
HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
To reach the goal the "TALI Process", which is a scientifically validated attention measuring and training interactive
gaming technology for delivering interventions and measurements on electronic devices, that will assist in the diagnosis
and treatment of children with developmental delays, was initiated. The process is a collaboration between the Monash
University, the Grey Innovation Pty Ltd and the Torus Games Pty Ltd. They together developed a non-pharmaceutical
alternative treatment for cognitive weaknesses in children with developmental delays. The front end of the "TALI
Process" is an attention measuring and training program in an interactive portable computer game format for delivering
interventions and measurements on everyday electronic devices (like for example tablets) in a way that allows open
access for families, educators and clinicians in both rural and metropolitan regions. The games have been clinically
designed and targeted to preschool and early school aged developmentally delayed children to provide intervention at a
time that has been identified as the most effectual. A double blind randomised controlled clinical trial was conducted
with 76 developmentally delayed children, comparing TALI games outcomes with a control game. Data from typical
children was also collected. The expected outcomes were observed which included improvements in children’s'
inattentive behaviours in the classroom and home, as well as improvements in literacy and numeracy. The program also
has the potential to measure attention abilities, which will allow the effects of traditional interventions, as well as TALI,
to be monitored objectively over time for the first time. The technology allows for greater educational and holistic
approaches to treatment and maximises time efficiencies for families.
