O

VERALL GOAL

/

MISSION

The project sees its aim in the contribution to the national goal to establish an efficient, inclusive and equitable primary

education system delivering effective and relevant child-friendly learning to all Bangladesh children from pre-primary

through Grade 5. This shall happen through the development of a model of inclusive education by using the public

primary education system.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

In Bangladesh, the possibilities to receive high-quality education through the mainstream education system are still

limited for children of diverse social, geographical and cultural groups and for children living in poverty. To make

matters worse children with disabilities, children from ultra-poor families or urban slums and ethnic minorities are

above all marginalized and excluded. In addition, a lack of understanding and skills concerning inclusive education

created barriers to include excluded children in the mainstream primary education system. Therefore, a strong

community outreach of primary school was developed that has components as if parenting and community based early

learning centers to ensure preparedness for learning for all children together. Further, the project helps to build

capacities within schools on contextual and practical inclusion strategies that are based on the challenges the teachers

are facing every day. The strategies deal with the problem of accessibility, shall help to create a child friendly

environment, contribute to an inclusive pedagogy, the participation of the children, protection, safety and security.

There's also a support system at a sub district-level established which comprises local education officials so that schools

can be better mentored, followed up and administrated locally. The project is also trying to develop a demonstrative

model of inclusive education to generate evidences that inclusive education can be implemented within the existing

system and structures. It also wants to raise awareness and change attitudes that exist within the system to include

excluded and marginalized children.
