The IEP has established links to nine of 16 faculties
O
UTLOOK
A social enterprise currently being planned will expand the IEP platform. Its objective is to tap into an otherwise hidden
resource whilst building the career opportunities for young adults with ID through a unique and holistic program. The
additional ‘transition to workplace’ component of vocational training and internships provided by corporate and
community partners will not only create ongoing impact for the initiative but fulfill the diversity and inclusion aims of
corporate Australia.
The unique value proposition for this social enterprise is that it will be the only program in Australia that encompasses
university, vocational training and internships for young people with ID. It is linked to one of the world’s leading
educational institutions, supported by CDS and its breadth of experience with this cohort and funded by diverse
partners in the broader economy which will in turn provide sustainability.
Response from our future partners in this enterprise is positive as it is seen as pioneering; is being built for sustainability
and has wide scope for scalability i.e. other universities have indicated an interest. Furthermore the inclusion of people
with ID in the workforce is seen as an opportunity to create significant and measurable cultural shift within
organisations as well as provide opportunities to create leadership within organisations.
