VERALL GOAL
/
MISSION
The projects aim is to offer people with disabilities that can use their hands only in a very restricted way, an alternative
device to handle a computer and to give them the autonomy to use it without any help.
T
HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
Personal computers have now been developed and produced for more than thirty years. In the beginning, there were
only few devices available for people with disabilities to handle them and the ones that existed were individually made
without any support available or the lacking possibilities to repair them if it was needed or if spares were needed.
Meanwhile there exists a range of devices, called "assisting technologies", to support people with disabilities. One of
these devices is the IntegraMouse 3 that was developed for persons, like for example people with paraplegia or
myasthenia, that are not able to operate a conventional computer mouse. With this mouse, the computer can be used
only with one’s mouth and minimal movement of the lips is enough to stir the mouse. The cursor on the screen of a PC
is moved by the mouthpiece that is only controlled with the lips. Left-click and right-click is initiated through sucking and
blowing. Beside the normal range of functions of a computer mouse, it can also be utilized as a joystick to play computer
games. The IntegraMouse is seen as a full-value substitute of a conventional computer mouse and is, unlike other
available devices, usable wireless.
