VERALL GOAL
/
MISSION
The mission of the project is to address students, teachers and service providers in the educational system to increase
their awareness to accessibility and tolerance towards the disabled population (specificity students/teachers/parents
with disabilities). Further, to rebut social stigma, create a shift in the social perception of people with disabilities and
promote the integration of individuals with disabilities into society in general and the educational system in particular.
T
HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
The project reaches out to children and teachers focusing on Access Israel's 4 pillars: (1) Transferring knowledge to avoid
Stigmas introducing physical and personal differences and similarities, basic terminology and concepts relating to the
disabled population and accessibility and helping fellow individuals. (2) Getting to know the Person behind the Disability
- creating opportunities to meet and become familiar with people with disabilities, their needs, challenges and goals.
Furthermore, the children, youth and the teachers also participate in an experiential event to experience accessibility,
involving and challenging various senses to further increase awareness to the needs of disabled individuals and
accessibility. (3) Experiential activities - participants experience the everyday challenges confronting people with
disabilities by using simulations. They move in a wheelchair, go over an obstacle course, taste ice-cream blindfolded,
walk blind-folded accompanied by a guide, and take part in activities to understand the difficulties of individuals with
hearing problems etc. (4) Passing it on - Each participant young and old are encouraged to create projects that share
their experience and promote awareness and inclusion.
