VERALL GOAL

MISSION

Sound Advice is a social enterprise with sole trader ship status, an advisory council and diversified financing streams.

With 3,300+ deaf children mainstream-educated in Ireland, Sound Advice is geared to parents, educators, policymakers,

researchers, tech firms and employers. Their mission since 2007 is to support inclusive education for deaf children while

empowering parents to develop their child’s full potential.

SA has several complementary aims and objectives:



INFORMATION PROVISION: supplying credible information on child deafness to families, educators and healthcare

professionals.



TRAINING AND CONSULTING: providing training, consultancy, advice and support services to those working with

deaf children, students and graduates.



EARLY LITERACY: highlighting the need of early literacy for deaf kids to parents, educators and health professionals,

and its role in early intervention.



MENTORING: building life skills, self-esteem, confidence & peer support into the lives of deaf youngsters.



PUBLIC AWARENESS: Educating public figures, government agencies and the general public in the specific hearing &

speech needs of deaf children, students and graduates.



FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY: To continue the proactive. Provision of fee-paying services, e-commerce activities,

website and venture sustainability.

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

Output 1: Successful public education and campaign for all eligible under-18s in Ireland to access bilateral pediatric ear

implants on the state health service. Far-reaching impact: Children hearing in two years with the best possible sound

quality facilitates inclusion, participation and equality in education & work.

Output 2: Paper published in the UK Journal of Inclusive Practice in Further & Higher Education, to guide practitioners &

employers in good practice. Continuing Impact: Network contacts in the UK share information and look to Sound Advice

for guidance on topics like practical work experience and transitioning from graduate

study to work.
