OUTLOOK
1)
Scaling up Operations: In this next 3-5 years, we aim to increase this total number of 40 students to around 100.
We have visited around 200 schools and spoken to over 15,000 students so far. We aim to increase this to 1,000
schools and 100,000 students in the next 5 years.
2)
Creating Community Leaders and Problem Solvers: We consider this to be one of the most exciting aspects of the
IDIA mission. We see law as a problem-solving discipline and the true place of lawyers as problem solvers. Our
scholars will be encouraged to take up leading roles in this mission, with a particular eye on specific problems faced
by their communities.
3)
Enhancing Access to Quality Legal Education: Our program is now focussed on getting the underprivileged admitted
to the leading National Law Universities (NLU’s). Our plan is to create and disseminate open-access legal learning
materials (mainly in areas that do not have quality teachers), so that students in other law schools can benefit from
it and gain a quality legal education. The materials would be creatively designed (in story-telling mode) and use
audio-visuals (such as Khan Academy’s videos).
4)
Leadership Skills: IDIA is run on the backbone of highly passionate student volunteers. A significant part of the IDIA
mission is also to enable these student volunteers to develop leadership and organizational skills. In the next 3
years, we aim to put in place a robust leadership-training programme.
5)
Creating a diversity-friendly ecosystem: In the next few years, we’d like to remove all barriers to entry of the
underprivileged to good law schools, including the institution of more scholarships, an easy-to-access entrance
exam (particularly for the visually impaired), and disability-friendly policies at law schools.
