/

MISSION

The project uses music as a means of social integration for students with autism spectrum disorder.

This approach results in the creation of a connection between the students with disability and the school environment

through the musical experience by implementing simple structured activities on the basis of perception and stimulation

to changes in behaviour and the achievement of personal well-being and academic achievement. The basic idea of the

project is to enable global educational initiatives by using music as part of inclusive education, multi-channel and multi-

sensory practice. Music is considered in this sense a tool to unify emotional, mental and physical experience. The

musical experience allows one to bypass the symbolic importance of verbal language and provides the child with a

developmental disorder the opportunity to speak with alternative methods, revealing their personality through

expressive-communicative unconventional strategies. By establishing a relationship with the child of respect and trust,

the music can unleash creative energy and lead them to independently learn to express themselves.

T

HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED

The interaction of music can stimulate the active participation of an autistic child by inducing a desire for

communication different from the mechanical responses that the autistic child is instinctively led to give. Starting from

game practices, one can aim at developing a real communicative liaison using music as a medium to facilitate and

develop communication through sound experiences with the voice and with musical instruments. Moreover, this

musical communication can offer the autistic child a way to recover self-esteem and confidence to become actively

involved in the work of the class and to participate in school as an integrating experience. Country in which it was
