ACTS ABOUT SIZE AND SCOPE
1)
Pan territorial (3 northern territories) - 3 million sq/km, only 107,500 total population of all 3 combined, vast
majority of communities are remote and only flying (no roads to them), extremely harsh weather and geographical
conditions, approx. 20 native languages, each territory faces distinct challenges in terms of emergencies and
disasters.
2)
Significant population of persons who are deaf or hearing disabled, as well as persons with cognitive disabilities
caused by fatal alcohol syndrome and substance abuse.
3)
High turn over in positions of expertise in the EMO offices.

UTLOOK
The information for this project is very relevant to other countries that populate the Arctic and Sub-Arctic. Long term
benefit to communities across the north as the EMOs now have a much better perspective of the needs of PWD and are
working to include those needs/abilities in standard operating procedures, as well as training programs.
