The Zero Project asked for nominations in the areas of both education (basically covering Art. 26 of the
UN CRPD) and ICT (as defined in Art. 12 of the UN CRPD on the accessibility of information technology).
The Zero Project chose this combination because accessibility of information in general is of overall
importance to education.
Creating the Shortlist
The call for nominations elicited 337 nominations from 98 countries. Starting from there and using the
expertise of the Zero Project’s network in a multi-step selection process, this number is gradually
reduced. This process will eventually result in 80 to 100 “Innovative Practices and Policies of the Zero
Project 2016” being announced at the beginning of 2016.
This document contains summaries of those 200 nominations that made it to the shortlist. With the
benefit of the expertise of more than 70 partners of the Zero Project, the original number of
nominations was reduced by roughly a third.
The shortlist contains nominations from 76 countries. The countries with the highest representations
are: Austria (20) - home country of the Zero Project - in the lead, followed by Italy (13), the USA (13),
Canada (9), the UK (9), India (8), Israel (8), and Spain (8), each of which has a significant representation.
Countries where all nominations made it to the shortlist include Turkey (4) and Montenegro (3).
