Background: A central goal of rehabilitation of peoples with disabilities is for them to lead their life independently. Is being autonomy the essence of adult human life? Does autonomy bring happiness, love, satisfaction and quality of life? This as other areas studied among adults with complex learning disabilities (LD) ( Kerr and Meyerson , 1987).
This study was set to examine autonomy and dependency among people with complex LD (PWCLD) and its relation to three areas: relationships, initiation, self-perception and quality of life. Members of the research team were PWCLD and 2 professional researchers.
Method: 107 PWCLD responded to questionnaires developed and adapted by the research team. Results: Findings indicate a significant positive correlation between: satisfaction and initiation, between self-perception and independent thinking and between initiation and independent thinking.
Conclusion: Implications of the findings in terms of programs and intervention will be discussed.
