VERALL GOAL
/
MISSION
The project aims to make content (e.g. exhibitions in museums) accessible for people with learning difficulties and
therefore open to a broader public. The hardware was developed following Universal Design guidelines and is barrier-
free. It enables to receive and consume information and at the same time allows interaction with the public. The overall
goal is the participation of people with learning difficulties as experts working towards the removal of barriers.
T
HE SOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED
Museums can enlarge their audiences through the use and distribution of “sound carrier scarfs”. This enables simple
and understandable dissemination of content, not only for people with learning difficulties but all visitors. The
developed solutions is a hardware device, a so called “sound carrier scarf” which features a barrier-free design and
intuitive functions. These are the fundamental differences compared to a regular audio guide. Moreover, people with
learning difficulties contribute in workshops to improve the access to content and make it simpler and easier to use.
These improved features are then transferred to the hardware. The advantages are two-fold. People with learning
difficulties can show their capabilities and the result is beneficial for the general public at the same time.

ACTS ABOUT SIZE AND SCOPE
1)
Training of 5 experts for the sound carrier scarf
2)
Pilot project in one exhibition in Düsseldorf
3)
Implementation of the system during the “Rehacare” fair as audio guide system
OUTLOOK
The concept of the “sound carrier scarf” is scalable. The workshop concept, which has been developed together with
people with learning difficulties, is adaptable for other contexts when accessible content is required.
