Dental treatments serve many needs. The main ones are functional, phonetic and aesthetic needs. Receiving a medical service, including dental services, highly appropriate and in accordance with the needs of the patient stands at the center of each person's life as a measure greatly influencing the quality of his life and health.


The dental clinic at Beit Issie Shapiro was established with the belief that people with disabilities have the right to receive high quality dental service in the community, just like people without disabilities. Service that recognize their unique characteristics and recreation, and understanding that there is a need of unique knowledge in order to provide them a tailored, appropriate and high-quality service.

On the basis of the experience and insights acquired during 30 years of the clinic's activity, a comprehensive and in-depth working model was formulated and established. The model presented in this document - a person-centered service in dental treatments for people with disabilities - is characterized by three main components: a person-centered service, adapted dental care and a multidisciplinary approach.


The guide presents the background to the establishment of the dental clinic at Beit Issie Shapiro, its characteristics and the work model that developed within it and was written in collaboration with the dental clinic staff and multidisciplinary team at Beit Issie Shapiro.
