BIS Summer 2019 Impact Report - Final

GROUNDBREAKING TRAINING FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS TO OPTIMIZE MEDICAL SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH INVISIBLE DISABILITIES Beit Issie Shapiro piloted a successful training course for medical professionals from Shaarei Tzedek Hospital and Clalit, one of Israel’s largest HMO’s, to expand their knowledge and understanding of different disabilities, including invisible disabilities, and equip them with the skills needed to provide optimal care for people with disabilities. SUCCESSFUL ADVOCACY FOR LEGISLATIVE CHANGE In 2018, Beit Issie Shapiro was instrumental in passing the Supervision of Day Care Law, requiring that private kindergartens accept and accommodate the needs of infants and toddlers with disabilities. This is a major step towards the inclusion of children with disabilities in mainstream schooling. This achievement adds to Beit Issie Shapiro’s past success in advocating for the passing of 9 laws and regulations, resulting in the government’s investment of over NIS 400 million in the disabilities field and impacting 414,700 people with disabilities and their families in Israel.
